Winter Passed, first film written & directed by Paul Barbeau, will be screened as a World Premiere at the Shanghai International Film Festival on June, 17th. Paul Barbeau will also be there to present his film and Romeo Eleven, another film produced by Reprise Films and screened in the Focus Canada section. The film stars Benz Antoine, Isabelle O'brien and Emile Schneider-Vanier and Barbeau himself in his directorial debut.

A new prize for Romeo Eleven at Tiburon!
Ivan Grbovic won a new prize for his film Romeo Eleven. The IFF of Tiburon, California, awarded him the Frederico Fellini Award to an international first time filmmaker outside the US. It is the sixth prize won by the film in an international festival. See here.
Romeo Eleven will be out in DVD on June 16, edited by Métropole Films.
The selection for Cannes 2012 has been announced!
Thierry Frémeaux, general delegate of the Festival de Cannes, announced the official selection for the 2012 edition of the festival, which features many great names of the worldwide cinema: Wes Anderson as opening film, Jacques Audiard, Leos Carax, Michael Haneke, Abbas kiarostami, Jeff Nichols, Ken Loach, Walter Salles, Alain Resnais, etc.
The Quebecois cinema will be represented by Xavier Dolan, whose Laurence Anyways is selected in Un certain regard section, and Chloé Robichaud, whose short film Chef de meute in official competition for short films.
The Canadian film production distinguishes itself by the presence of five directors, among which Brandon Cronenberg, the son of David.

"Autrui", Micheline Lanctôt's next feature, produced by Reprise Films
Reprise Films will produce the new feature of Micheline Lanctôt, Autrui, which tell the story of a young woman who accomodate a homeless.
Inspired by a true story, the script was written by Micheline Lanctôt and Hubert-Yves Rose. They had already worked together on La ligne de chaleur, which made its World premiere at La Quinzaine des réalisateurs in Cannes.
Micheline Lanctôt is nominated in six categories at the Jutra of which that of "Best Director" for Pour l'amour de Dieu. She won the Silver Lion Award in Venice for Sonatine in 1984.
Grand Prix of the Jury for "Romeo Eleven" in Annonay!
Romeo Eleven, the first film of Ivan Grbovic produced by Paul Barbeau, won the Grand Prix of the Jury at the Festival du premier film d'Annonay, in France. Ali Ammar, who plays in the film with Joseph Bou Nassar, was there to receive the prize on behalf of the team.

After having won the prize for Best Canadian Feature film at the Festival du Nouveau Cinema (F.N.C.), being selected in the top ten films of Quebec by Nightlife magazine, and having been shown in Karlovy Vary, Toronto (TIFF), Thessonaliki, Paris, Amiens, Kerala (India) and Dubai. The film, directed by Ivan Grbovic and starring Ali Ammar and Joseph Bou Nassar will now be shown in Annonay France and in Official Competition at The Santa Barbara International Film Festival, which is a major stop on the circuit before the Golden Globe and Oscar nominations of 2012. Winter Passed, first film written and directed by Paul Barbeau, is now just completed. It is a semi-autobiographical film on his work as a producer and owner of NuFilms which produced more than 700 music videos for international artists such as Arcade Fire, Tragically Hip, Corneille, Celine Dion, Martha Wainwright, Beast and Wyclef Jean to name a few. Romeo Eleven in Dubai!
Romeo Eleven will be screend at the Dubai International Film Festival, which takes place from December 7th to 14th. The first feature of Ivan Grbovic, featuring Ali Ammar and Joseph Bou Nassar, has already received four awards and has been screened in about ten festivals worldwide.

Jo for Jonathan (directed by Maxime Giroux) won two awards at the Gotham Screen International Film Festival in New York, Best Feature and Best Actor for Raphaël Lacaille. The jury was composed of Richard Baum, Agnes Crane, Ben Garchar, Christopher Jarvis and Bill Woods.

Romeo Eleven in Toronto - TIFF 2011!
Romeo Eleven has been selected for the Toronto International Film Festival and director Ivan Grobvic will compete with it for the Canada First! award for best first Canadian feature. Romeo Eleven introduces young Ali Ammar in the lead role and is supported by renowned Lebanese actor Joseph Bou Nassar. The film recently won the Ecumenical Jury Commendation at Karlovy Vary. It was produced by Paul Barbeau and is distributed in Canada by Métropole Films. TIFF 2011 runs from Sept 8th to 18th in downtown Toronto.

Jo for Jonathan won the Gilles Carle Prize at the Rendez-vous du Cinéma québécois ! This prize awards the best first or second full lenght of a director.
This is the second prize in Québec for Jo pour Jonathan, after the Prize AQCC at the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma. Jo pour Jonathan wil be in theaters on March 18th.
